Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 Laser System

The Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 laser system provides nonablative fractional resurfacing of the face, neck, chest and hands. Using laser pulses in fractional patterns, the Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 laser resurfaces damaged skin, making it look younger and more refreshed. It improves the appearance of wrinkles, scars and age spots through dermal laser penetration that is deeper (depths up to 1.6 mm) than that available with traditional treatments. The Fraxel laser stimulates the body's natural skin cell and collagen regenerative responses but, because the beams it produces are so small, does not damage surrounding healthy tissue.

The Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 laser is U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved to treat:

  • Wrinkles around the eyes
  • Acne scars
  • Surgical scars
  • Melasma
  • Age spots/sunspots (pigmented lesions)
  • Actinic keratoses (precancerous lesions)
  • Resurface the skin

Because Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 laser treatment is a nonsurgical alternative to more invasive surgical and resurfacing procedures, it has fewer risks and requires less recovery time.

Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 Laser Procedure

The Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 laser procedure is performed in a doctor's office, and requires only a topical anesthetic. The laser handpiece is moved over the targeted area, delivering precise, effective laser energy that destroys damaged skin cells, and promotes the growth of new, healthy ones.

A typical procedure takes about 20 to 25 minutes. Although most patients report feeling an increased sensation of heat, discomfort is minimized by the topical anesthetic applied before the procedure begins.

Recovery from Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 Laser Treatment

After Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 treatment, patients return home right away, but may, for about 24 hours, feel as if their skin is sunburned. Skin may appear pink or red, but will bronze within the next 1 to 2 weeks. Old, damaged skin is exfoliated, and new, fresh skin takes its place. Patients may also experience minor itching, dry skin, peeling and flaking. There is only a small risk of infection, hyperpigmentation or scarring.

Results of Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 Laser Treatment

Results of the Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 treatment are visible immediately after the procedure. Most patients achieve maximum results from 3 to 5 Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 treatment sessions, spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart. Usually within 24 hours, patients can return to work and resume normal activities.

The results of the Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 procedure vary depending on the individual, but most patients report significant improvements, including:

  • Smoother, fresher and younger-looking skin
  • Improved skin tone and texture
  • Fewer brown spots
  • Smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes
  • Less noticeable surgical and acne scars

Patients need to take certain precautions after treatment to protect their skin and help it heal properly. Direct sun exposure should be avoided for at least 3 months, and a sunscreen of at least 30 SPF should be applied daily.
